President Trump made the following statement on CNN on February 2, 2026
“We need to nationalize elections, using the Federal government to make our elections fair and above board.”
The FBI, got a grand jury to approve a warrant to obtain the paper ballots concerning the Georgia election from 2020. Why is the FBI studying these ballots from an election over five years in the past? President Trump has refused over that time to admit the he lost the presidential election 2020. Sixty-two courts examined the claim. All of them found that the election was fair and above board.
We find our nation back at the 2020 election for one reason. President Donald Truman cannot accept the result. He has made it clear that he will not rest until he finds the corruption that he is convinced has occurred. He is not deterred through facts and analysis.
The greater danger is that his obsession may lead to dangerous actions around the 2026 Midterms. Trump wants to discredit the election process that each state uses to handle voting. The play is simple. Convince the nation that election results are not being handled correctly in states. Then the President demands that the federal government take charge of the 2026 Midterms. Trump offered to remove the 3,000 ICE agents from Minnesota, if they would give their election ballots from the 2020 election. They refused. It is clear that Trump is determined to cast doubt on election results in states that he lost.
Fearing a blue wave in which the Democrats gain control of the House of Representatives and United States Senate, Trump wants to use the controversy over the Georgia results in 2020 to impact the 2026 election. The off year Democratic gains in New York and Virginia are part of that motive. More worrisome for the president is the Texas State Senate victory in which a Democratic candidate won a special election in an area where a Trump candidate won that seat by 17 points in 2024. The impact of such a wave is to stop the Trump agenda. He wants to taint the 2020 results as a pretext to imposing federal oversight on all the elections.
There is no evidence of voter fraud. Trump’s definition of fraud is when the voters reject him. The Georgia result was recounted three different times in 2020. No irregularities were found at the time of election. Trump’s FBI is tasked with “finding fraud.”
They will create a narrative that the election was not fair in 2020 but was without fraud in 2024 when Trump won his second term. It appears that election interference only occurs the President loses an election.
