Legislative Affairs

The Texas Senate is delaying the appropriate funding to our public schools by holding the school finance bill HB2 in committee – this bill contains the “best” currently available funding for our public schools. Holding it in committee makes it even more difficult for our local ISD’s to plan for the future. Call the Senate Committee NOW and demand action!

The SAVE acts are still making their way through the legislative branch.

Texas HB5337,

  • requiring a person to submit proof of citizenship to register to vote and
  • creating criminal offenses,

was recently sent by Committee to Calendars on May 7. This means the bill is just waiting for a date on the floor.

Call or text Terri Leo Wilson and any other Texas House Reps.

There are also 2 federal and 1 Texas Senate bills still under consideration that would negatively impact future voter registration. These bills include requiring the voting ID (i.e., Driver’s License) match the birth certificate or passport. This requirement disproportionately impacts married/divorced women and others who have changed their name.
