DESCRIPTION:Mark 125th Anniversary of the Great Storm\n& Honor the 8\,000+ Lives Lost that Day\nGalveston Island Democrats are inviting members to join in forming a human chain along the Seawall to honor the more than 8\,000 lives lost on September 8\, 1900 in the Great Storm\, 125 years ago. Together\, participants will stand as a living tribute to resilience\, remembrance\, and community pride. \nIf you wish to participate\, meet at the Great Storm Statue\, 4700 Seawall\, by 8:45 a.m. Wear your GID t-shirt/cap or a blue shirt. The schedule is as follows \n\n8:45 a.m. –  Line-up along the Seawall (or come early and enjoy the da\n9:00 a.m. – Photo opportunity and drone flyover\n9:30 a.m. – Ceremony at the Great Storm Statue with remarks by the Mayor and other community leaders.\n\nAll ages are welcome. Event will take place rain or shine. Wear comfortable shoes and bring water. Parking along Seawall is free until 10:00 a.m.

DESCRIPTION:Good Trouble Lives On  is a national day of nonviolent action to respond to the attacks posed on our civil and human rights by the Trump administration and to remind them that in America\, the power lies with the people. \n  \nFrom felony disenfranchisement to voter suppression bills like the SAVE Act\, anti-democracy forces are working overtime to silence our voices. 60 years ago\, President Johnson federalized the National Guard to protect peaceful civil rights marchers in Selma. Now\, President Trump is calling the Guard to stop protestors from using their voice and to block progress on issues we care about. \n  \nWe can’t wait. We need Good Trouble now! \n  \nJuly 17th\, 7:00pm-8:00pm\nFt Crockett Park\, 4550 Seawall Blvd.\, Galveston\n  \nOn July 17th\, the anniversary of Rep. John Lewis’ passing\, we’re joining with communities across the country to demand that Congress protect our rights and ensure free and fair elections for all. \n  \nWe’re sending a clear message:  In the United States\, the power lies in the hands of the people.
