SUMMARY:March in Peace\, Act in Power - Good Trouble Lives On
DESCRIPTION:Good Trouble Lives On  is a national day of nonviolent action to respond to the attacks posed on our civil and human rights by the Trump administration and to remind them that in America\, the power lies with the people. \n  \nFrom felony disenfranchisement to voter suppression bills like the SAVE Act\, anti-democracy forces are working overtime to silence our voices. 60 years ago\, President Johnson federalized the National Guard to protect peaceful civil rights marchers in Selma. Now\, President Trump is calling the Guard to stop protestors from using their voice and to block progress on issues we care about. \n  \nWe can’t wait. We need Good Trouble now! \n  \nJuly 17th\, 7:00pm-8:00pm\nFt Crockett Park\, 4550 Seawall Blvd.\, Galveston\n  \nOn July 17th\, the anniversary of Rep. John Lewis’ passing\, we’re joining with communities across the country to demand that Congress protect our rights and ensure free and fair elections for all. \n  \nWe’re sending a clear message:  In the United States\, the power lies in the hands of the people. We demand an end to: \n  \n\nThe extreme crackdown on our civil rights by the Trump administration\, from our right to vote to our right to protest and free speech..\n\n  \n\nThe attacks on black and brown Americans\, immigrants\, trans people\, and other communities.\n\n  \n\nThe slashing of programs that working people rely on\, including Medicaid\, SNAP\, and Social Security.\n\n  \nCongressman John Lewis warned us of this moment. He spent the final years of his life fighting to protect the right to vote. This is our moment to carry the torch\, continue his legacy\, and pass it forward to future generations. \n  \nIt’s time for Good Trouble\, not just from us\, but from every lawmaker who claims to care about our country. \n  \n\n  \nChants\nVoting rights\n1. [call:] Voter power on the rise!\n[response:] Now’s the time to organize!\n2. What do we want? Voting Rights\nWhen do we want it? Now!\n(repeat)\nWhat do we want? Democracy\nWhen do we want it? Now!\nWhat do we want? Fair Districts!\nWhen do we want it? Now!\nWhat do we want? Ethics Reform!\nWhen do we want it? Now!\nWhat do we want? Clean Elections!\nWhen do we want it? Now!\nWhat do we want? Secure Elections\nWhen do we want them? Now!\n3. When I say “money\,” you say “out!” (repeat 2x)\nWhen I say “voters” you say “in!” (repeat 2x)\nMoney! Out! Voters! In!\n4. I say voting\, you say rights!\nVoting! Rights! Voting! Rights!\nWhen I say money\, you say out!\nMoney! Out! Money! Out!\nWhen I say voters\, you say in!\nVoters! In! Voters! In!\n5. What do we want?\nFair Elections!\nWhen do we want them?\nNow!\n\nDemocracy\n1. The people\, \nunited\, \nwill never be defeated!\n2. Show me what democracy looks like!\nThis is what democracy looks like!\n3. When Democracy is under attack\, \nwhat do we do? Stand up fight back!\n4. Read the Writing on the Wall\nDemocracy is Meant for All!\n\n\n  \nSONGS\nAmerica the Sorrowful (Beautiful))\nAuthor Unknown (2025)\nHow sorrowful when human rights are met with such disdain – \nWhen mercy is a laughing stock\, while power is the gain!\nAmerica\, America\, you’ve lost humanity.\nResentment for the weak and poor will be your undoing.\nX\nHow sorrowful when hatred holds the gavel and the scales;\nHow beautiful for humankind when selfless love prevails!\nAmerica\, America abandon hate and greed.\nThere’s so much more worth living for that starts with you and me.\nGet Up\, Stand Up (Bob Marley)\nGet up\, stand up: stand up for your right\nGet up\, stand up: stand up for your right\nGet up\, stand up: stand up for your right\nGet up\, stand up: don’t give up the fight\nPreacher man don’t tell me\nHeaven is under the earth\nI know you don’t know\nWhat life is really worth\nIt’s not all that glitters is gold\nHalf the story has never been told\nSo now you see the light\, eh!\nYou stand up for your right\nCome on!\nGet up\, stand up: stand up for your right\nGet up\, stand up: don’t give up the fight\nGet up\, stand up: stand up for your right\nTalkin’ About a Revolution (Tracey Chapman)\n[Refrain]\nDon’t ya know\nThey’re talking about a revolution?\nIt sounds like a whisper\nDon’t ya know\nThey’re talking about a revolution?\nIt sounds like a whisper\n[Verse]\nWhile they’re standing in the welfare lines\nCrying at the doorsteps of those armies of salvation\nWasting time in the unemployment lines\nSittin’ around waitin’ for a promotion\nDon’t ya know?\nThey’re talking about a revolution\nIt sounds like a whisper\nPoor people gonna rise up\nAnd get their share\nPoor people gonna rise up\nAnd take what’s theirs\n[Bridge]\nDon’t ya know you better run\, run\, run\, run\, run\, run\, run\, run\, run\, run\, run\, run\nOh\, I said you better run\, run\, run\, run\, run\, run\, run\, run\, run\, run\, run\, run\, run\nPower to the People (Curtis Mayfield)\n[Chorus]\nWe want the power for the people\nThat’s all we ask in our country\, dear\nThe sick and the hungry are unable\nProtect them and those who may live in fear\n[Verse 1]\nWe as the young wish to say in this song\nGod bless great America\nWe give thanks to the old for acheiving their goal\nIt is now up to us and we know we must build up a trust\n[Chorus] \nAnd we want the power for the people\nThat’s all we ask in our country\, dear\nThe sick and the hungry are unable\nProtect them and those who may live in fear\nPower for the people\nPower for the people\nPower for the people\nPower for the people\n[Verse 2]\nHardening crimes is a part of the times\nAnd it’s rough for some people to live\nDisease can move fast but it don’t have to last\nIt is now the nation’s turn for all to be concerned\nWe can be freer still\, it is the people’s will\n[Chorus]\nAnd bring back the power for the people\nThat’s all we ask in our country\, dear\nThe sick and the hungry are unable\nProtect them and those who may live in fear\n[Outro]\nPower for the people\nPower for the people\nPower for the people\nPower for the people\nPow-pow power\nPow-pow power\nMy Country ‘Tis of Thee\nMy country ‘tis of thee\,\nSweet land of liberty\,\nOf thee I sing.\nLand where my fathers died!\nLand of the Pilgrim’s pride!\nFrom every mountain side\,\nLet freedom ring!\nIn America (John Legend)\n[Verse 1]\nIn America\, in America\nI poured my sweat in America\nThis land is my land\nIt’s America\nI broke my back for America\nAll of money I make\nAll of these chances I take\nJust paying my rent in America\nWon’t just stand around\nWatch it go down\nWon’t just stand around\nWatch it go down\n[Chorus]\nBut maybe it’s a long shot\nMaybe it’s a fantasy\nWe’ve given it all that we’ve got\nMaybe we can live a dream\nOh\, oh\nCan we build a new life was it ever meant that we…\nCould make it in America\nMake it in America\n[Verse 2]\nIn America\, in America\nThey say I’m free in America\nIn America\, in America\nI still can’t breath in America\nWatch them squeezing my neck\nWatch them bullets connect\nWe still gon’ fight in America\nWon’t just stand around\nCan’t watch it go down\nWon’t just stand around\nWatch it go down\n[Chorus]\nBut maybe it’s a long shot\nMaybe it’s a fantasy\nWe’ve given it all that we’ve got\nMaybe we can live a dream\nOh\, oh\nCan we build a new life was it ever meant that we…\nCould make it in America\nMake it in America\n[Bridge]\nWe’ll make it in America\nWe’ll make it in America\nWe’ll make it in America\nWe’ll make it in America\nWe’ll make it in America\nWe’ll make it in America\nWe’ll make it in America\nWe’ll make it in America\n[Outro]\nIn America\, in America\nMy hopes right here in America\nIn America\, in America\nMy hope\, my prayer in America\nOur Country (John Mellencamp)\n[Verse 1]\nWell\, I can stand beside\nIdeals I think are right\nAnd I can stand beside\nThe idea to stand and fight\nI do believe\nThere’s a dream for everyone\nThis is our country\n[Verse 2]\nThere’s room enough here\nFor science to live\nAnd there’s room enough here\nFor religion to forgive\nAnd try to understand\nAll the people of this land\nThis is our country\n[Chorus]\nFrom the east coast\nTo the west coast\nDown the Dixie Highway\nBack home\nThis is our country\n[Verse 3]\nAnd poverty could be\nJust another ugly thing\nAnd bigotry would be\nSeen only as obscene\nAnd the ones who run this land\nHelp the poor and common man\nThis is our country\n[Chorus]\nFrom the east coast\nTo the west coast\nDown the Dixie Highway\nBack home\nThis is our country\n[Verse 4]\nThe dream is still alive\nSome day it will come true\nAnd this country it belongs\nTo folks like me and you\nSo let the voice of freedom\nSing out through this land\nThis is our country\n[Chorus]\nFrom the east coast\nTo the west coast\nDown the Dixie Highway\nBack home\nThis is our country\nFrom the east coast\nTo the west coast\nDown the Dixie Highway\nBack home\nThis is our country\n\n

SUMMARY:Veterans Appreciation March
DESCRIPTION:We welcome Mario Romero as our Keynote speaker. \nMario served as a Navy Seal 2003-2012.  His Service included two tours to Iraq & one to Afghanistan. He’s a demonstrated leader – as a Seal team instructor and during his tours. \nHonorably discharged\, Mario received a bachelor’s degree (in pure Math) from Columbia University and a Masters Degree in Systems Engineering (Magna cum laude) from UH-Clear Lake. He has worked for Intuitive Machines (building two vehicles that have landed on the moon) & NASA. Mario has received numerous awards recognizing his many achievements. \nHe wants to stoke change in order to support what most Americans want; affordable healthcare for all\, raised wages\, clean water & air\, protected social security & well funded public education. Believing in secure borders\, he looks for a humane approach to this problem. \nOne of his highest priorities is protection of Veterans Affairs – primarily healthcare. \nWe are privileged to have Mario join us on this important day. \n  \nShow support for our veterans as we protest cuts to VA services and other important federal services! \nWe will have an optional 1/2 mile Protest March along Seawall Blvd\, adjacent to the event venue. \nThere is plenty of accessible concrete space\, and a large shady lawn. \nBring your sign\, your water\, and your chair if you’d prefer to remain stationary. \nPaid parking ($5-10) is very close. \n\n  \nWe will be testing our cooling station in preparation for the summer! This is a particularly important protest as services for our Veterans are at tremendous risk. Please bring a flag\, bring a sign\, and bring your friends. This location is wheelchair accessible. \nClick here to rsvp for the protest: https://mobilize.us/s/Wswgsd \nWith our larger attendance\, we are getting better organized – and we need more help! We need people to put up signage\, put up canopies (tents) for our info booth\, etc. – or you can be one of our “yell leaders” and lead chants. \nClick here if you are willing to help: https://signup.com/go/qKKdexM
